Dolly Parton Cancels Las Vegas Residency Due to Health Concerns
Country music legend Dolly Parton has announced the cancellation of her six-show residency in Las Vegas, which was originally scheduled to take place later this year. The 80-year-old singer made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a video that included a health update delivered with her trademark humor and positivity.
Parton had previously postponed the shows, which were set for September, but now she has decided not to proceed at all. In the video, she addressed her health concerns directly, explaining that while she is responding well to medications and treatments, she needs more time to recover before returning to the stage.
“Well, hey there it’s Dolly and I am here to give you an update on a few things going on in my life,” she began. “First, it’s concerning my health and I have some good news and a little bad news.”
The good news, according to Parton, is that she is improving every day. However, the bad news is that the medications and treatments are causing some side effects, including dizziness. “Some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit ‘swimmy headed’, as my grandma used to say,” she said. She added that the physical demands of performing—carrying instruments, wearing heavy rhinestone outfits, and managing her signature big hair—make it difficult for her to perform at her best right now.
“Think of me as like an old classic car that, once restored, can be better than ever,” she joked. “I need to rebuild my engine before I can take to the stage again.”
Parton also shared more details about the illnesses she has been dealing with over the past couple of years. While she has long suffered from kidney stones, her immune and digestive systems became imbalanced, leading to ongoing health challenges. She praised her doctors for their hard work in helping her recover and expressed confidence that everything she is experiencing is treatable.
Despite her health struggles, Parton remains active and continues to work on various projects. She mentioned that she still records music, does videos, and visits Dollywood occasionally. She is also working on opening a museum and hotel in Nashville later this year.
Additionally, Parton is involved in the development of a Broadway musical about her life, which she is currently writing and reworking. She also thanked fans for their support following the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025. “A lot of you have been concerned about me and Carl, and you were so great about that… but you would be surprised at how much your love and concern meant to me during that time,” she said.
Parton had initially planned to perform the Las Vegas shows in December 2025, but they were postponed two months earlier. At the time, her sister Freida asked fans to pray for her, which caused concern among her followers. Now, she has apologized for missing the shows and thanked fans for their continued support.
“I will always love you,” she concluded, referencing one of her most famous songs.
Parton uploaded the video along with a message expressing gratitude for the love and support she has received over the past year. “I’ve still got some healing to do, but I am on my way! See you soon.”
Dolly Parton is one of the most successful musical artists of all time, having recorded 50 albums over a career spanning nearly 60 years. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide and is known for her songwriting talents. Among her most famous works are “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You,” which was later a huge hit for Whitney Houston.
Her career has also seen her create a fragrance line and invest in a theme park in Tennessee, which she renamed Dollywood. With a net worth exceeding $1 billion, Parton continues to be a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.
