Ronaldo Mulitalo Shares His Return Timeline After Major Injury
Ronaldo Mulitalo, a key player for the Cronulla Sharks, has shared details about his expected return to the field following a significant ACL rupture sustained in October during the Pacific Championships. The 26-year-old player underwent surgery and, although he initially aimed for an earlier comeback, the club has now confirmed his first potential game for the 2026 season.
Mulitalo revealed on the Chad Townsend Show that he is set to make his return against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs during the NRL Magic Round. “Yeah, I just spoke to Pickles, who is our head of performance, and he gave me Round 11,” he said.
Initially, Mulitalo had hoped to return just after the bye week, which would have been Round 8. However, with the club’s decision, he is now focusing on Round 11 as his target. “If I’m good enough to play and they’re paying me, I feel like I should be doing my job for the club,” he added.
A Long-Term Commitment to the Cronulla Sharks
Since making his NRL debut in 2019, Mulitalo has become a vital part of the Cronulla Sharks’ squad. Over the course of 136 appearances, he has scored 100 tries, showcasing his talent and dedication to the team. His current contract with the Sharks is set to run until the end of 2028, reflecting the club’s confidence in his abilities.
Despite facing a challenging off-season due to injury, Mulitalo expressed gratitude for his continued relationship with the club and the opportunity to sign an extension. “I’m lucky I’ve got signed for the next couple of years as well,” he told Chad Townsend.
He acknowledged the difficult timing of his injury, noting that it occurred in the first year of his new contract. “It’s just bad timing for the club, I guess, signing someone for the next couple of years, and they get injured in the first year of their new contract,” he said. However, Mulitalo emphasized that he feels fortunate and continues to be actively involved with the club.
Transitioning to New Talent
In Mulitalo’s absence, Sam Stonestreet has stepped in to fill his role. Stonestreet made his NRL debut in 2024 and has already scored two tries in five games this season. His performance has provided a positive transition for the team while Mulitalo works towards his return.
Mulitalo remains optimistic about his recovery and is focused on contributing to the team when he returns. He has maintained a strong connection with the club, showing his commitment to being an active part of the Sharks’ journey.
Looking Ahead
As the 2026 season approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating Mulitalo’s return. His determination and resilience have been evident throughout his recovery process, and his presence on the field is highly anticipated.
With the support of the club and the community, Mulitalo is working diligently to ensure that his comeback is both successful and impactful. His journey serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of perseverance and dedication in the face of adversity.
The Cronulla Sharks remain confident in his abilities and are looking forward to welcoming him back to the team. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Mulitalo as he prepares to make his long-awaited return.
